- Stanley Mitchell
Stanley Mitchell ( born
1932 ) is a British academic and author. He was born in London and attended Christ College School which included a period of evacuation toBiggleswade duringWorld War 2 .He did national service during which he learnt German and Russian and went on to read modern languages at Oxford specialising in French, German and Russian.
His specialist subjects are Russian literature and art, comparative literature, art history and cultural studies. He has held teaching posts at the universities of Birmingham, Essex, Sussex, San Diego California, McGill Montreal, Dares Salaam Tanzania and Camberwell School of Art.
He was
Emeritus Professor of aesthetics at theUniversity of Derby and holds an Honorary Senior Research Fellowship in the Art History department atUniversity College London .He has published translations of
Georg Lukacs ,Walter Benjamin , andAlexander Pushkin .References
