Working Together with Vulnerable Communities to Improve Reproductive Health Project (VCP)

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global network of independent humanitarian organisations established in 1984 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the specific purpose of providing individual and community development and disaster relief. ADRA established an office and began programme activities in Nepal in 1987. ADRA serves people without regard to their ethnic, political or religious association. It simply helps people in need, especially those most vulnerable such as women, children, and the elderly.
VCP Project Overview
The proposed action will use three dimensional, Universal Access and Rights Based approaches. Within the three dimensional approach, the main activities will include a) health system strengthening (renovating of infrastructure and facilities, constructing of low cost health post buildings, providing essential equipments and supplies, capacity strengthening of local Health Facility Operation and Management committees in leadership and management) b) competency based training to service providers in Safe Motherhood, Family Planning and HIV/AIDS, and c) strengthening of supply system (logistic management and health information management training) and RH mobile health camps. In addition, the activities include community mobilization through training and support to community structures, advocacy groups and local NGOs and CBOs and behaviour change communication through the birth preparedness package, public events and health volunteer mobilization.
Further, the action focuses on using participatory approaches and advocacy to bring health service providers and health service seekers together at each level towards meeting the RH health services needs of the beneficiaries.On one hand, the local groups will be mobilized to increase the final beneficiaries’ awareness, access and usage of RH services while on the other hand, the capacity of health service providers engaged in health delivery system will be improved. The capacity building interventions will include competency based skill training needed to provide integrated RH services and additionally, it will be ensured that essential equipments, medicines and logistics are in place.

Women of reproductive age Youth including marginalized groups (dalits, ethnic minorities and indigenous groups) Users of health service facilities and community members The Health Facility Operation and Management committees Primary Health Care Center- Outreach Clinics (PHC-ORC) Health facilities, local NGOs and CBOs, health service providers and health volunteers.

VCP Project's objective
Overall Objective
Improve the RH status of vulnerable populations most affected by conflict in three districts of the MWDR Region.
Specific Objective
Address basic RH needs of vulnerable population (n=303,858), primarily women of reproductive age (n=160,808) and youth (n=146,527).
VCP Project's Expected Result
