Sir Ewen Alastair John Fergusson GCMG GCVO (b 28 October 1932) is a British diplomat.
The son of Sir Ewen MacGregor Field Fergusson and Winifred Evelyn Fergusson, he was educated at Rugby and
Oriel College, Oxford . He played rugby forOxford University and for Scotland, gaining 5 caps.After 2 years with the
King's Royal Rifle Corps , he enteredHer Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1956.He was British Ambassador to South Africa 1982-84, deputy under secretary of state at the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office 1984-87 and British Ambassador to France 1987-92.He was Chairman of
Coutts from 1993-99, and of theSavoy Hotel Group 1994-98. He was Chairman of the governors of Rugby School from 1995-2002 and a trustee of the National Gallery from 1995-2002.He is an honorary fellow of Oriel College, Oxford and holds an honorary LLD from
Aberdeen University . He isKing of Arms of theOrder of St Michael and St George and a Grand Officier of theLégion d'Honneur He was awarded the KCMG in 1987, the GCVO in 1992 and the GCMG in 1993.
