seismologist . He came from poor family traditions, but studied at the ImperialUniversity of Tokyo . In 1899 he put forward the hypothesis of the origin of the 1894 Meiji Sanriku tsunami on the basis of the theory of plate tectonics. In 1939 while working for the Seismological Observatory at the Tokyo University, he made a reconstruction of Zhang Heng's seismometer, considered the first such device ever made in 132.Links
