Dance Club Massacre is an American avant-garde metal band from Chicago, Illinois. The band originated as a simple recording project between founding members Nick Seger and Kurt Latos. After recording three songs described as "Halloween-core" and distributing them to friends, the project became a complete band. The band now consists of Nick Seger (lead vocals), Jon Caruso (drums), Chris Mrozek (bass guitar), Mitch Hein (guitar) and Matt Hynek (keyboards).

The band plays an experimental mixture of grindcore and various types of extreme metal and hardcore punk with strong indie rock undertones.

Background

Dance Club Massacre originated in Chicago, Illinois in 2004. They name influences like The Locust, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, An Albatross, Daughters, Converge, Horse the Band, Fantomas, Pig Destroyer and Between the Buried and Me, however they have many unique qualities to them, namely their incorporation of indie rock styles. Also, their lyrical styles focus more on partying, girls, beer and enjoying life in general rather then the more depressing and/or disturbing themes extreme metal bands typically employ.

Dance Club Massacre recorded their first demo in early 2005 at Blam Recording in Chicago. The demo had seven tracks and 150 hand pressed copies were made. These demos were sold at shows and through their myspace. Shortly after the release of the demo, Matt Hynek took Kurt Latos' place as keyboardist. In April, 2006 Dance Club Massacre recorded their debut album "Feast of the Blood Monsters" with the same engineer that recorded their previous demo. It was also self released with real packaging. 1100 copies were made and sold at local indie record stores, shows and on www.interpunk.com. The album has stayed in interpunk.com's top 50 items ever since it was released.

After being noticed by Black Market Activities, their debut album is being re-issued. It has also been remixed and remastered with new packaging and cover art. They also have an upcoming album entitled "Circle of Death" which is set to be released on November 11, 2008.
