Polish Radio Wilno was a station of the
Polish Radio , located in the city of Wilno (nowVilnius ,Lithuania ), which in the interbellum period belonged to theSecond Polish Republic .The station was opened on March 4, 1927, and the first experimental broadcast, a 20-minute lecture by Boleslaw Wscieklica, took place at 8 p.m. on that day [ [http://www.zilionis.lt/history/wbr-radio.php] ] . Regular broadcast, however, begun several months later, on November 28, 1927 [ [http://radiopolska.pl/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=wykaz-archiwum-am] ] . According to other sources, regular broadcast was started on January 15, 1928 [ [http://historiaradia.neostrada.pl/Historia.html] ] .Original frequency was 690 kHz, but it was changed several times, and in mid-1939, before the outbreak of
World War Two , the frequency was 536 kHz.In the years 1927 - 1929, the station was located in Wilno’s district of Zwierzyniec. Between 1929 and 1939, the transmitter was placed in the district of Lipówki, and in September 1939, a new transmitter was planned to be opened in the district of Krzyzowka. Among most popular broadcasts, was daily transmission of a Roman-Catholic service from the famous church of Ostra Brama.
The station ceased to exist in the second half of September 1939, following
