Herman II, Duke of Carinthia

Family

His paternal grandparents were Engelbert, Duke of Carinthia and Uta of Passau. Engelbert also controlled the March of Istria. His maternal aunts included Gertrude von Sulzbach and Bertha of Sulzbach, respectively the wives of Conrad III of Germany and Manuel I Komnenos, Byzantine Emperor. Duke

In April 1144, his paternal uncle Ulrich I, Duke of Carinthia died childless. Henry married Elizabeth of Styria, a daughter of Leopold of Styria. Henry died childless on 12 October, 1161. Herman succeeded his older brother as Duke. In about 1173, Herman married Agnes of Austria. Agness was the widow of Stephen III of Hungary.
