Established in 1881, "Central Penn", formerly known as Central Pennsylvania Business School, officially changed its name in 1999 to better characterize the diversity of the school's academic programs. The college offers on-campus housing, but about 60 percent of the school’s students commute.

A swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts and picnic areas also are features of the drug- and alcohol-free campus. The college is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
