- Octavius Leigh Leigh-Clare
Octavius Leigh Leigh-Clare (1841 - July 16, 1912) was a British
barrister and Conservative politician.He was the son of a
Liverpool banker, and was educated atRossall School andSt John's College, Cambridge . He graduated in 1864 with a mathematicaltripos . Leigh-Clare was called to bar at theInner Temple in January 1866. Initially he practiced as coneyancer and equity draftsmanLincoln's Inn . He built up an expertise in mining law, which led to him being retained as counsel in a number ofLancashire mining cases. He was also the principal lawyer employed by theManchester Ship Canal company."Obituary: Vice-Chancellor Leigh-Clare", The Times, July 17, 1912, p. 11]He was elected as Conservative MP for Eccles at the 1895 general election. In 1905 he was appointed as Vice Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
