Målfrid Grude Flekkøy

Målfrid Grude Flekkøy (born 29 November 1936) is a Norwegian psychologist.

Personal life

She was born in Oslo as a daughter of Sigmund Skard (1903–1995) and Åse Gruda Skard (1905–1985).[1] She is a sister of Halvdan Skard[2] and twin sister of Torild Skard. Through her mother, she is a granddaughter of Halvdan Koht and Karen Grude Koht,[1] and through her father she is a granddaughter Matias Skard and niece of Torfinn, Bjarne, Eiliv and Olav Skard. She is also a niece of Paul Koht.

From 1962 to 1981 she was married to psychologist Kjell Magne Flekkøy (born 1939), and from 1983 to 1995 she had her second marriage to Truls Wilhelm Gedde-Dahl (born 1930).[1]

Career

She finished her secondary education in 1956, and took education in domestic science and as a preschool teacher. She took the cand.psychol. degree at the University of Oslo in 1967, and the doctor's degree at the University of Ghent in 1991. She was also involved in local politics in Bærum and Oslo, representing the Labour Party.[1]

From 1981 to 1989 she served as the Ombudsman for Children in Norway; the first ombudsman of its kind in the world.[2] She was then a senior fellow at UNICEF's International Child Development Center, before being hired as a psychologist in the Nic Waals Institutt in 1991.[1]
