Sergei Golovanov (1968-) is a Russian
Catholic priest of theByzantine Rite . Golovanov was born inSaransk (Republic of Mordovia ).Baptized in aRussian Orthodox church in 1973 his family belonged to this denomination and inside it he could learn theChristian doctrine in a epoch marked byCommunist ideas opposed to religion. In 1991 after a long process of spiritual conflicts in relation to his former denomination, Golovanov went toUkraine and in the city ofIvano-Frankivsk , where he metUkrainian Catholic bishop Irinae Bilyk who showed to him the importance of two Eastern bishops - Ukrainian CatholicMetropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky and theRussian Catholic Exarch Leonid Fyodorov - converted toCatholicism .In 1992 married a music teacher called Iryna and at this same year was invited to help in a pastoral work however for worshippers belonged toLatin Rite inSiberia .Golovanov was ordained aCatholic priest in 1994 and after that was named for preaching in his homeland establishing himself in Sargatskoe, village belonged toOmsk Oblast . In October, 1995 a Russianparish of the Byzantine rite was created and Father Golovanov became responsable by this temple.Other nominations occurred being Golovanov named vicar in 1997, responsable by Latin and Byzantine parishes and visitator for Russian Catholics in 1998, dean in 1999, member of Board of Priests in 2001, rector of Latin and Byzantine churches in 2004 and responsable by the future of theRussian Catholic Church in 2005 due to pastoral care of all faithfuls linked to Russian tradition.Up to now he tries to reestablish the Russian Catholic Exarchate, vacant since 1923.
