Before his rugby career took off, he attended Rogotai and Mana College playing representative rugby league for Wellington from the ages of 17, 18 and 19 before switching to Rugby Union. He made his debut for the Samoan 7's National team in 2003 before signing with UK rugby club Canterbury Kent(POWERGEN CUP), playing prop and hooker. He made his club debut in the 2004 season of the National Provincial Championship(NPC) in New Zealand, playing for Manawatu (Although it should be noted that he played for the Wellington Lions development club previous Cup in the NPC).
