- Aspromonte National Park
Aspromonte National Park is situated in the southern section of the
Apennines , inCalabria . The area lies near the sea and includes mountain summits reaching the 2,000 meters of height (Montalto is 1,955m). The Park territory, crossed by several watercourses, is populated by important animal species like thewolf , theperegrine , theeagle owl , and thegoshawk . Most of the territory is dominated by forests of beech trees, silver firs, black pines, holm oaks, chestnut trees, and Mediterranean maquis. A couple of rare species live here:Bonelli's eagle and a tropical fern ("Woodwardia radicans"). Surrounded by theMediterranean , the Park is also rich in historical, artistic, and archaeological values.References
