.458 Express
Introduction
The .458 Express is a .458 diameter / caliber , cartidge developed by Professor Koos Badenhorst of Haenertsburg in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It is alo referred to as the .458 3 inch.
This unique cartidge was born in Africa, taking into account theharsh African conditions . It has a broad spectrum of reloading options and can be loaded to do, long range flat trajectory shooting or close up Big Five hunting shots with the heaviest of bullets available in this caliber.
Background / History
Year of development is 2000. The .458 Winchester magnum was developed in 1956 and followed by the .458 Lott in 1971. The wildcat catridge .450 Watts developed in 1950 was the forerunner of the .458 Winchester Magnum. However the .450 Watts was overpowered at the time for most American Species and did never make it to the standard calibers of the rifle suppliers of the time.
The .458 Express is developed in South Africa by a South African, the rest mentioned above are all American products.
Technical information
The case
The .458 Express uses a straight wall belted case as seen in the .458 Winchester Magnum. The case lenght is 2.99 inches compared to the 2.50 inches of the 458 Win Mag end 2.80 inch case of the .458 Lott.
Case Capacity
The volume of water contained in a .458 Express case is 111 grains compared to the 103 grains of the .458 Lott and 92 grains of water in the .458 Winchester Magnum case.
Caliber
.458 diameter bullets are used in the .458 Express.
