The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha is an all male a cappella group at Penn State University specializing in contemporary rock and 50's doo-wop.

History

The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha were founded in 1989 by Kevin McMahon to perform at the Alpha Zeta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha's Chapter Day ceremony. The group also performed a gig at Baby's Burgers and Shakes, a 50's nostalgia cafe in State College, PA. Following the first two performances the Dreamers transitioned from a short-term group into a permanent performing ensemble at Penn State. Following McMahon's graduation Lou Persic took direction of the group and in 1990 the Dreamers released their first album, "Instruments Not Included" [" [http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/sinfonia/dreamers/recordings/recordings.html The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha - Recordings] from thedreamersonline.com"] The group continued to perform through the 90's around Penn State Campus and throughout the northeast. In 1992, The Dreamers performed at President Bush's visit to Penn State. In 1994 the Dreamers Second album, "It's Still Rock and Roll" is released. In 1997, under the direction of Jordan Ullman, the Dreamers broke into the world of contemporary A Cappella, performing such songs as Jesse's Girl and the Hanukkah Song. The following year the Dreamers performed in the ICCA Mid-Atlantic Regional and won the award for Best Soloist. inging Valentines

What started as a one-time fundraiser has developed into a Penn State tradition. Every February, in the week preceding Valentine's Day, the Dreamers go around campus singing songs to customer's valentines. The group will dress up in suit and tie and give a rose to the lucky guy or girl for a small fee. The tradition has garnered media attention, having been featured in the Daily Collegian [" [http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2005/02/02-14-05tdc/02-14-05dnews-03.asp Singles not left out of Valentine's Day celebration] from psucollegian.com"] , the Centre Daily Times [" [http://www.centredaily.com/ Centre Daily Times] from centredaily.com"] and the local CBS affiliate [" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UU0vdu4Fxw The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha on WTAJ-TV 10 News] from youtube.com"]
