Gaming career

GitzZz was part of the "shuuk" team when he won both the WCG 2001 and the WCG 2002. The german professional e-Sport organisation Schroet Kommando (later "SK Gaming") picked him up in 2003 and he continued to dominate the international Unreal Tournament scene with winning the ESWC 2003 (UT 2003) even though he had some motivation problems [http://www.wcg-germany.com/content468.htm] . In 2004, SK Gaming announced that they part with their Unreal Tournament squad [http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/3777] , this news was the trigger for rumours that he will stop playing on a competitive level. A few weeks later, however, he joined together with his old clanmates the german multigaming clan Mousesports [http://www.unrealnorth.com/news.php?action=view&id=421] . Due to the lack of competition, GitzZz decided to go inactive and in June 2005 he announced his retirement from professional gaming [http://www.unrealnorth.com/news.php?action=view&id=669] .

With the release of Unreal Tournament 3 in late 2007 and the ₤20.000 "EnemyDown UT3 1on1 National Championship", GitzZz returned to the scene for a short time, however, he failed to reach the playoff stage and since there wasn't any competition for UT3 left (the ESWC committee decided to pick the 9 year old Quake 3 Arena over UT3 [http://www.unrealnorth.com/news.php?action=view&id=1518] for instance) he went inactive again.

Attitude towards e-Sport

Even though he won thousands of dollars during his gaming career, he always refused to call himself a professional gamer. In various interviews he stated that he only played the game for fun and that he sees playing games as a hobby, regardless of the money he could win [http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=717635&page=1] . These and similar statements were confirmed by old ingame rivals who met him on various LAN events, such as Laurens "lauke" Pluymaekers from Fnatic.
