Lini Simmons

Lini Simmons (born in Columbia, Missouri on July 25, 1987) is an American gymnast and gymnastics coach. She was a 2001 National Team member in Hartford, Connecticut where she placed second in the all around competition. [1] In 2002, Simmons was unable to make the US National team after finishing 16th directly behind close friend Nastia Liukin. In 2003, Simmons was a US World Champion Team alternate along with Samanatha Sheehan, Terin Humphery, and Chellsie Memmel. [Sanders, Karol "The Dream: US Gymnasts and Their Sacrifice"] Invited to the Olympic Trials in the summer of 2004, Simmons was unable to attend due to a near paralyzing knee injury. Simmons announced she would be leaving the sport in the fall of 2004 following her third knee surgery. However, she continues to coach gymnastics along with former teammate Jenni Thompson.
