Kappa Pi Beta

Kappa Pi Beta is an Asian-interest fraternity located on the campus of Northern Illinois University [http://www.niu.edu/sa/organizations/categorical.shtml] . Since its founding on March 16 2000 as the first Asian Interest fraternity on NIU's campus, Kappa Pi Beta has made it its mission to become an organization on the NIU campus that can pride itself for its gentleman etiquette and excellent academic record. The fraternity has made the Deans List and has been recognized for the highest fraternity GPA at NIU in 2004. Since 2000, its brotherhood has expanded from 6 to 77. KPB has only one chapter at NIU, but currently is in the process of starting a charter chapter at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Northern Illinois University chapter is accredited by NIU's Greek Life Standards Board.

History

On March 16 2000, Kappa Pi Beta was founded with the vision of creating a brotherhood that would not only straighten the bonds of brotherhood within the members of the fraternity, but also give a voice and create leaders in the Asian community on campus. Its main goal was to break through the labels and stereotypes of a typical fraternity. Its members would focus to excel in leadership, service, time management, social interaction, brotherhood, gentleman etiquette, Asian/cultural awareness, and most importantly, academic excellence. This was the vision of the 6 founders, who were:

Mission statement

"As a brother of Kappa Pi Beta, I will strive hard to further the existence of this great fraternity. I will do my best to bring forth a bond of unity to all of my fellow brothers that will stand the test of time. Along with the close relationships that are built, I pledge to promote academic excellence, brotherhood, cultural awareness, social mobility, philanthropy, gentlemen values, and respect towards the individual and community. Regardless of the letters I wear, what organization I am in, or national origin, I will set the example that unity is the ultimate beginning of brotherhood. I will use these attributes as development of my character and retain them even beyond my years of higher learning."
