Fløyfjellstunnelen

Fløyfjellstunnelen

Fløyfjellstunnelen is a road tunnel in the city of Bergen, Norway. The tunnel goes through the Fløyfjellet mountain massif between Sandviken and Kalfaret. The twin-tube tunnel was built in the late eighties as part of the city's motorway network, and is part of the main route between Åsane and the rest of the city. Each of the tubes carries two lanes of traffic on the European route E39/European route E16. The two tubes differ slightly in length; the southern tube, which carries southbound traffic, is 3.2 km long and was opened in 1988, while the northern tube is 3.6 km long and was opened the following year.

The traffic through Fløyfjellstunnelen is increasing rapidly. In 2007, the average daily traffic was 41,707 vehicles, up from 34,779 vehicles in 2000.Cite web|url=http://www.vegvesen.no/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urlpdf&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobheadername1=Content-Disposition%3A&blobheadervalue1=attachment%3Bfilename%3Dpdf_Statens_vegvesen.pdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=SVVvedlegg&blobwhere=1162823408587&ssbinary=true|title=ÅDT nivå 1-punkt Hordaland|accessdate=2008-09-20|publisher=Statens Vegvesen|year=2008|language=Norwegian] The speed cameras in Fløyfjellstunnelen detect the most speed limit disobeying vehicles in Hordaland.Cite web|url=http://www.bt.no/trafikk/article472932.ece|title=Flest fakkes i Fløyfjellstunnelen|accessdate=2008-09-20|publisher=Bergens Tidende|year=2008|language=Norwegian]
