Ignace Cotolendi (23 March 1630 – 16 August 1662) was a French
bishop . He was a founding member of theParis Foreign Missions Society and became a missionnary in Asia.Life
Born in
Brignoles ,Var , Cotolendi was recruited byAlexander de Rhodes assecular clergy volunteers to become a missionnary in Asia, together withFrançois Pallu andPierre Lambert de la Motte . They were sent to the Far-East as Apostolic vicars. Persia and India on foot, sincePortugal would have refused to take non-Padroado missionnaries by ship, and the Dutch and the English refused to take Catholic missionnaries.
