"Eraaa" (2008)is a New Age Horror film directed by 3 debutants Hari Shankar, Hareesh Narayan & Krishna Sekhar. This film talks seemingly outside normal sensory channels, termed as Paranormal - something believed to have no accordance with scientific laws. "Eraaa" in ancient Thamizh means "Night". Spirits n ghosts are believed to have a close kinship with Night. Based on this concept Eraaa has been penned with a completely new dimension by Shankar Bros.

This film's special feature is that the film is shot with a character’s viewpoint. This makes the viewer to fit themself in the shoes of the character and experience the fear.

Plot

Nakulan Ponnusamy (aka) Nakul, a paranormal investigator, goes in search of concrete evidence to prove the existence of ghosts and spirits. The unoccupied house of a leading Industrialist in Munnar (which is believed to be haunted) was chosen to be a subject of his study. After a complete night’s stay for his primal investigations, Nakul was found dead under mysterious circumstances. The mystery behind his death is being discussed by a lady named Daisy who is a TV Reporter forms the rest of the story. The public belief on spirits and ghosts has been analyzed.

Production

The crew of the film had done their home work. They have involved in the study of paranormal activities, been working on field with Ouija board (wee-gee board), EVP, EMF meters, micro cassette recorder and much more scientific instruments. Also they involved at night shoots in the locations which were broadly believed to be haunted.

Without using daggers, blood, gory faces, computer graphics, hero, heroine, songs, fights, double meaning dialogues, Eraaa still makes the chillness run through your spines without the usual cinema formula. All the technicians who have worked in this venture are debuts / first timers.

oundtrack

The movie has no songs in the film, but a soundtrack called "Naan Irandha Kadhai" (I am Dead) [Rock] is composed & mixed by Sathish Kumar. The song speaks about the after life feel of a dead man who reveals the secret behind death.

Story, screenplay and direction have been cared by Harishankar, Hareesh Narayan and Krishna Sekhar. For the first time in Thamizh cinema industry, a movie direction has been handled by three.
