Thurtene Carnival is the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the United States of America.Swiss, Zach. [http://thedartmouth.com/2006/05/19/news/cornell/ "Cornell, Vanderbilt host similar spring weekend celebrations"] . "The Dartmouth", May 19, 2006.] Founded in 1904, it is held annually in the spring at Washington University in St. Louis and is organized by Thurtene Honorary. Student organizations build temporary structures in the seven days preceding the weekend of the event, known as "lot week" and put on theatrical productions, sell food, and or offer games out of them during the weekend of the carnival.

At the end of the carnival awards are given to student group's structures for best construction, best production, best food, best game booth, most environmentally friendly, most money raised for charity, and best participation.
