P. Thyagarayar

Sir P. Thyagarayar was founder of a movement called Then Nala Urimai Sangam (literal translation: The South Indian Welfare Association). The movement was formally found on 20 November 1916 at Chennai, India. Thyagarayar was also instrumental in founding Justice Party (Needhi Katchi in Tamil) and Justice Party came to power in 1921 in the first Assembly elections of Madras Presidency, winning 63 out of 98 seats.

Thyagarayar Nagar (T. Nagar in short) which means the city of Thyagarayar, which is one of the most prominent central business districts of Chennai, South India, is named after Sir P. Thyagarayar.
