MatsuriCon originated in 2006 from the company MatsuriCorp, a non-profit group. The word matsuri comes from the Japanese language, meaning festival. Translating to: FestivalCon, a celebration of the collaboration of Eastern and Western cultures, MatsuriCon claims to focus on providing a weekend of education through demonstrations and entertainment relative to Japanese Culture and Traditions both old and new.

Ever since it's debut in 2006, MatsuriCon has been held at three different locations. Due to technical glitches, MatsuriCon 2006 could not be held at Radisson Worthington. The location was changed to Comfort Inn North. MatsuriCon 2007 was held at the Columbus Marriott Northwest and MatsuriCon 2008 was held at the Holiday Inn Columbus-Worthington.

Guests

No Need for Bushido's Alex Kolesar and Joe Kovell, along with Tristan MacAvery, and Archaic Jump Productions are MatsuriCon Guest regulars. Due to conflict of scheduling, Trevor Devall could not attend MatsuriCon 2008.

MatsuriCon Signature Events

Since the beginning, there have been a few events that have become part of the MatsuriCon tradition.

*Tokyo Tower Invasion - Loosely based off of the board game "Risk", the MatsuriCon guests use the MatsuriCon attendees as game pieces on the battle field to protect Tokyo Tower!!
*Will It Blend? - This event is based off of the wildly popular video series. The host, Jeef takes various items (along with submissions from the audience) and places them in the same blender used in the video series!
*Glomping 101/201 - Learn the 30 different glomps, the passion of glomping, and the different styles of glomping!cite web | url = http://www.matsuricon.org/mainevents.html | title = MatsuriCon Signature Events | publisher = MatsuriCon.org | accessdate = 2008-09-27]
