Jackie is trying to circulate a petition for classmates to sign requesting to keep school open during the summer as well. The reason is because Jackie, along with the rest of the gang is afraid that Miss Crabtree will get married and therefore no longer be able to teach them (they lost Miss Magilicutty their last teacher that way. Back then teachers were usually not allowed to marry and stay teachers). Miss Crabtree gives the gang a ride to school every day and she picks them up minutes later. In the car they all try to scare Miss Crabtree away from even considering marriage in the future. Miss Crabtree stated that maybe she will get married some day.
The gang arrives at school and buy answers for an afternoon history verbal quiz from Bonedust (who gets the answers from a joke book). Miss Crabtree goes into town for lunch and a man stops by the school looking for her. Its actually her brother but the gang is afraid that this guy is someone who wants to marry their teacher. Mary Ann, Jackie, Farina, Donald, Buddy, and Chubby all tell this guy very outlandish lies about Miss Crabtree in order to scare him away. When this guy goes swimming in the nearby lake, Farina, Chubby, and Jackie hide his clothes in hopes he cannot come back to the school.
Class resumes that afternoon. The class is asked questions in history and they all give answers they got from Bonedust's jokebook. After about 10 foolish answers, Miss Crabtree threatens to thrash the next student that gives her a foolish answer. She then asks Farina to recite Abraham Linclon's Gettysburg Address. He answers 1644 South main Street. About to thrash him, she shouts "Who Gave You Those Answers?!!!" Farina and the gang point to Bonedust. Bonedust reveals they came out of a book he handed to her which was a jokebook.
Meanwhile Miss Crabtree's brother begins walking nearly naked back to the school. Miss Crabtree asks the class if a man was up at school looking for her and that he is her brother. Jackie, Chubby, and Farina then begin crying and confess what they told her brother. Miss Crabtree starts crying as well until he sees her brother arrive dressed in leaves and branches. She and the rest of the kids burst into laughter. Stymie, Wheezer and Dorothy then walk in dressed in her brother's clothes. Its presumed that all is forgiven.
This episode was edited by about 6 minutes. Opening scenes and portions of teh car ride and the classroom scene were edited due to remarks percieved as racist toward African Americans. Also, "School's Out" is one of a dozen Our gang episodes to be in the public domain. Copyright for this episode was not renewed back in the 1960's.
