Painful arc syndrome

Painful arc syndrome is a clinical syndrome in which there is pain in the shoulder and upper arm during the mid range of shoulder abduction. The causes are mainly minor tear of the supraspinatus tendon, supraspinatus tendinitis, calcification of supraspinatus tendon or subacromial bursitis,fracture of greater tuberosity. the mechanism of pain is the pinching of rotator cuff muscles between the upper end of humerus and acromion of scapula due to any the reasons explained above. treatment consist of ultasound therapy over the painful area and anti inflammaroty drugs.in severe cases injection of hydrocortisone in subacromial space,or excision of anterior or probably prominent part of acromion is done.
