Grind is a music genre, with its roots in death metal and hardcore punk.Because of some misunderstanding, grind is often taken as synonym of grindcore, which is incorrect. Grindcore is subgenre of Grind. The roots of the genre are bands like Napalm Death (grindcore), Carcass (goregrind), Terrorizer (grindcore, deathgrind), Repulsion (deathgrind, death metal).

imilarities and differences

Grindcore

Grindcore is strongly influenced by hardcore punk music. In fact, there are no big differences between hardcore and grindcore structure. There are just faster tempos (often around 190bpm), deeper vocalist's scream and often downtuned guitars. The first grindcore album (and best example of this subgenre) is Napalm Death's "Scum". Many new bands combine grindcore with more death metal, noise and jazz elements. These bands are defined as avant garde grindcore.

Noisecore

Noisecore is a sub-genre of grindcore. It is much more minimalistic and 'nihilistic'. Songs are often built on one powerchord, very fast, one-beat drumming, often slap bass guitar. Lyrics are sociopathic and vulgar, vocalist shout very irregularly and incomprehensibly. Name "noise"core refers to chaos and noise in songs. 'Inventors' of this trend are Anal Cunt, incorrectly called "grindcore" band.

Goregrind

Goregrind is much more influenced by death metal. There are fast tempos, as in grindcore. Songs are often short, with a small number of riffs, guitars are generally tuned very low. Vocalists use growling and (often) pitchshifters. Some examples of goregrind are the beginnings of Carcass and Cattle Decapitation.

Cybergrind

Cybergrind is based on synthesizers and electronic music, generally not on guitars and 'live' percussion. Distorted guitars are replaced by synths with 'acid' sound and loops taken from , horrors, thrillers, porno-movies, etc. Some examples are Libido Airbag and NWC 666.
