Ibn al-Arif (nickname) or Abul Abbas Ahmad Ibn Mohammed Ibn Musa Ibn Ata Allah al-Mariyyi al-Sanhaji, also known as Al-Urruf (born July 23
1088 inAlmeria and died1141 inMarrakesh ) was a famousSufi . ["Ibn Khallikan's Biographical Dictionary", (translated ed. 1843), p. 150] His father came fromTanger and his family belonged to the Moroccan tribe of theSanhaja . He is especially well-known as the founder of aSufi school ortariqa , which was based on theteachings ofIbn Masarrah , and as the author of " Mahasin Al-Majalis" ("The Attractions of Mystical Sessions"). He was born, and spent most of his life, inAlmeria inAl-Andalus at the height of the Almoravid power.Almeria was the center ofSufism at that time. The tomb of Ibn al-Arif is inMarrakesh .References
