Mehmunpur Rajgan is a village near Jatlan, Mirpur District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
The village is situated between Jhelum River and the Upper Jhelum Canal,15 km from Mirpur city.
Demography
According to 1998 census of Pakistan, its population was 232.[1] There are about 25 houses in and most village residents are the descendants of Raja Kamal Khan. All of the population belongs to the Panwar Sohlan Rajput tribe.
History
Mehmunpur Rajgan is situated between Upper Jhelum Canal and Jhelum River near Jangian Kotla in Khari Sharif, Mirpur District, Azad Kashmir. The village is situated on 793 ft. above sea level. The village has total population of around five hundred. Literacy rate of this village is approximately 99%.
The two Zaildars Raja Sajjawal Khan and his son, Raja Bashir Khan made this village known throughout the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Raja Sajjawal Khan had very close terms with the Dogras, Kashmir's ruling royal family, and often had Dogra officials visit him at Mehmunpur frequently. Raja Sahib was popular for his hospitality in the area.
In past Mehmunpur was known for its politicians and its sons joining the army (British Indian Army and Pakistan Army) but now many are attached with the Law Profession.
