Nicholas Victor Louis d'Oudinot-Odinet, Marquis d'Odinet (born
August 16 ,1863 ; diedFebruary 20 ,1927 ) was born inBordeaux ,France a grand-nephew ofNapoleon 's Marshal Oudinot, Duc de Reggio of a junior branch of the Oudinot family of the French Nobility (Odinet). He was married to Eugenie d'Esting and had four children.He studied at the
University of Paris and theUniversity of Bordeaux and wrote many essays on European unification and the role it would play in a peaceful world alongside gradual progressive reforms in international relations. For a short time he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs under PresidentPaul Deschanel of theThird French Republic .A known activist for progressive, conservative reform among the salons of
Paris , he returned to his home in Bordeaux shortly after his retirement from public life. Despite his conservative republican views, he was a loyal royalist and a close friend and correspondent ofJean d'Orleans , Duc de Guise, whose daughter, PrincessIsabelle d'Orleans , married Odinet's cousin Bruno,Comte d'Harcourt .
