Kaisar-I-Hind Medal

The Kaisar-I-Hind Medal was established by Queen Victoria in 1900. It was awarded to any person (of either sex) who had rendered useful service in or for British India.

It consisted of two classes. The First Class was awarded under sign manual from the Sovereign on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for India; the Second Class was granted by the Governor-General of India. Additional bars were awarded for additional services.

The medal was an oval shaped badge, in gold for the First Class and silver for the Second, with the Royal Cipher on the obverse side, and the words "Kaisar-i-Hind - for Public Service in India" on the reverse side. The medal was worn on the left breast, hung by a dark blue ribbon.
