Alex Shibutani began skating at age seven. He competes in ice dancing with his younger sister
Maia Shibutani .The Shibutanis won the intermediate title at the 2006 U.S. Junior Championships.
In the 2006-2007 season, they won their sectional competition to qualify for the
2007 United States Figure Skating Championships on the novice level. They won the competition. They changed coaches to Shpilband and Zoueva following their win at the 2007 nationals.In the 2007-2008 season, they were unable to compete internationally on the junior level because Maia was not yet old enough to do so. They won the bronze medal at their sectional event. At the
2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships , they won the pewter medal on the junior level.In the 2008-2009 season, they competed for the first time on the
ISU Junior Grand Prix . They won the gold medal at the2007-2008 Junior Grand Prix event inCourcheval ,France . They won the silver medal at the event inMadrid ,Spain to qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final.Programs
