Alice Kryzan

Alice Kryzan

Alice J. Kryzan is an environmental attorney and Democratic politician from upstate New York. She is the Democratic Party nominee in the race for the House of Representatives seat for New York's 26th congressional district, which is being vacated by Tom Reynolds.

Primary election

Kryzan, in what was seen as a major upset, defeated endorsed Democrat Jon Powers and two-time former Democratic nominee Jack Davis to win the Democratic nomination on September 9, 2008. Kryzan's candidacy was largely seen as "under the radar," and while Powers and Davis engaged in an extensive primary battle, Kryzan was rarely mentioned. Many analysts credit the damage from Davis' attacks with dragging down former front-runner Powers, and opening up the race to the mostly unknown Kryzan.

General election

Kryzan will face off against Republican nominee Chris Lee, and Powers (who is still present on the Working Families Party line, although the party has announced it will put its support behind Kryzan, and Powers is not campaigning) in the general election on November 4, 2008.

Kryzan has been endorsed by the "New York League of Conservation Voters". [ [http://www.nylcv.org/newsroom/releases/4065 NYLCV Endorses Alice Kryzan For Congress] from "New York League of Conservation Voters", August 21, 2008]

Personal life

Kryzon was born in Youngstown, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor degree at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. in 1970, and her law degree at University of Chicago Law School in 1973. After practicing law in Chicago, she and her husband moved to Western New York. They now live in Amherst. Her husband, Robert Berger, is a law professor at the University at Buffalo. They have one son, Sam, who is currently a law student.
