- The Food Emporium
The Food Emporium is a chain of
grocery stores originally part ofShopwell Inc. Acquired in 1986 by The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P), it operates approximately 30 stores in theNew York City Metropolitan area, including many stores inManhattan and stores inWestchester County, New York andFairfield County, Connecticut . Many of the stores in the New York City boroughs were converted from A&P stores when the parent company decided to re-brand all its NYC stores as The Food Emporium andWaldbaum's .The stores are well-known throughout the New York area for their "Someone Made a Store Just for Me" radio jingle.
After A&P purchased the Kohl's Food Stores chain in
Wisconsin , many of the existing stores were re-branded as Kohl's Food Emporium, and new stores were opened as Kohl's Food Emporium. Food Emporium remained the primary format of the Kohl's stores until the chain shut down in 2003.The Food Emporium company should not be confused with the Food Emporium food court at the
Westfield San Francisco Centre , which shares the same name, but is related toThe Emporium department store.External links
