Inverneill House is an old house in
Argyll .History
The lands of Inverneill first came into Campbell hands in 1480 when the lands of
Knapdale were granted toColin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll . In 1773 Sir Archibald Campbell, KB became the owner of the estate, however he was unable to live on his land as he was appointed Governor of Jamaica and then of Madras in India. It was his elder brother James who first set up home at Inverneill.The house was of considerable size in those days having Dining and Drawing rooms, 8 bedrooms, Housekeepers Room servants rooms pantry kitchen and Scullery and outhouses containing Wash house, laundry and dairy. the walled garden with it's 20 foot high wall containing two turrets was reputed to be one of the finest in Scotland for fruit and vegetables of all kinds.
Lt Col. Duncan Campbell 7th of Inverneill added the three storey wing around 1890. The picture above shows how it looked then. the house was occupied by the Campbell family until 1955 when it was sold. The last two occupants were the misses Olive and Una Campbell. Their sister Ysobel who had married and became Mrs. Stewart of Fasnacloich was one of the co-founders of the Scottish Country Dance Society and became it's first Secretary.
A country dance named Inverneill house was composed in her honour.

Inverneill House is an elegant, comfortable and well appointed residence standing in 6 1/2 acres of selected grounds near the shore of
Loch Fyne , 2 Miles south ofArdrishaig and 10 Miles north ofTarbert on the A83There is a small 7th Century stone with a simple carved cross in the entrance hall.
One of
Queen Victoria 's bridesmaids stayed at Inverneill and sprig of myrtle from a tree in the garden was supposed to have been incorporated in Queen Victoria's bridal bouquet.An ancient ice house stands beside the drive and the house water is supplied by a natural spring in the garden.
The grounds have a magnificent wall, with round towers enclosing a paddock. The Lawn is backed by a pond. Deer come down from the hills and in the semi wild wood land there is a mausoleum.
