Crataegus ellwangeriana is a hawthorn that is not yet well understood. It is sometimes considered to be a synonym of C. pedicellata^[1], and therefore a synonym of C. coccinea, which would place it in series Coccineae. A study^[2] concluded, however, that C. ellwangeriana should not be included in series Coccineae.
