The Conservatorium Maastricht is located in the city of Maastricht and is one of the nine conservatories in the Netherlands. The conservatorium is a faculty of the Zuyd University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Zuyd in Dutch) for the Bachelor programme and the "Zuid Nederlandse Hogeschool voor Muziek" for the Master programme, in co-operation with the Fontys Conservatorium, academy of Music of the Fontys University of Applied Sciences. The training found at the various Conservatories in the Netherlands comes under the heading "Hoger Beroepsonderwijs" (in short HBO) which means Higher Professional Education.

The conservatorium collaborates with the two others art faculties of the Zuyd University: the Toneelacademie Maastricht (Academy of Dramatic Arts) and the Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maastricht (ABKM, Academy of Fine Arts) and with the Faculty of Arts and Culture of the Universiteit Maastricht (UM-Maastricht University).

Programs and degrees offered

The Conservatorium Maastricht has departments for European classical music, Jazz, Musical composition and Opera. The Conservatorium proposes a 4 years Bachelor programme (BMus and BMus ed.) and a two years Master programme (MMus).

International orientation

The number of foreign students is ca. 65% from more than 45 different countries. After consultation, non-Dutch speaking students can take exams in French, German or English. Also, theses and other work can be written in one of these 3 languages. Many lessons and courses can be offered in English.

The conservatorium collaborates and has international exchange programmes with leadings music schools in Europe like the Hochschule für Musik Köln (Cologne), (Germany), the Royal Conservatoire in Brussels, (Belgium), the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz, (Austria) etc.

History

* 19??: Creation of the conservatorium.
* 1965: New building (Bonnenfantenstraat 15, architect P.H. Dingemans).
* 2001: The Conservatorium Maastricht become a faculty of the Zuyd University.
* 200?: Creation of the Zuid Nederlandse Hogeschool voor Muziek for the Postgraduate programme in co-operation with the Fontys Conservatorium.
* 2009: Start of a joint Master degree with the Maastricht University.
