Parkavakulam

Parkavakulam, பார்க்கவகுலம் a Tamil-speaking community from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The main sub-divisions of the community are Nathaman, Nainar, Malaiyaman, Suruthiman, Moopanar. Nathaman and Malaiyaman sub-sects use the title Udayar (உடையார்.) Surithiman sub-sect use the title Moopanar (மூப்பனார்.) Nainar or udayar are mostly residing in North Central Tamil nadu. Udayar is sometimes spelt as Udayar or Odayar.

Origin

Moopanar & Suruthiman are the descendants of the two wives of Kulasekaran. Nathaman are the descendants of Meiporul Nainar. Malaiyaman are the descendants of Narasinga Munaiyar Nainar. Kulasekaran, Meiporul Nainar and Narasingha Munaiyar are the sons of Thaervann Malaiyaman (who ruled the regions around Thirukovilur), from his wives Senbagamaalai (daughter of a Chola king), Kanchanamaalai (daughter of a Pandya king) and Padmavati (daughter of a Chera king) respectively. Thaervan Malaiyaman is also sometimes referred in literature as Thaerveegan/Deiveegan, and is some times mentioned that he had a brother named Thirukkannan. Thaervann first married(Angavai) of King Paari (Paari-Velir or Vel-Paari), but did not have any children with her (a minority contest this claim by saying that her lineages were absorbed along with that of the other wives). Thaervann was the son of the more-famous Malaiyaman Kaari who had also ruled the regions around Thirukovilur c.90- 122 C.E. Rajaraja Cholan I (Tamil: ராஜ ராஜ சோழன்} born Arulmozhi varman),(also called as Arunmozhi udayar and respectfully as Periya Udayar), popularly known as Raja Raja the Great, is one of the greatest emperors of the Tamil Chola Empire who's ruled between 985 and 1014 CE. He established the Chola empire by conquering the kingdoms of southern India expanding the Chola Empire as far as Sri Lanka in the south, and Kalinga (Orissa) in the northeast. He fought many battles with the Chalukyas in the north and the Pandyas in the south. By conquering Vengi, Rajaraja laid the foundations for the Later Chola dynasty. He invaded Sri Lanka and started a century-long Chola occupation of the island. Among 'seven patrons' (kadaiyezhu vallal); Vel-Pari, Malayaman Thirumudi Kaari and Ori were from Parkavakulam Malaiyamaan Thirumudi Kaari (c.90- 122 C.E.), a.k.a. Malaiyamaan and Malaiyan, was a king of Mulloor Malai, a small region in ancient Tamil Nadu in South India. He ruled from c. 106 to 122 C.E. in the present East Namakkal, Salem, West Villupuram and West Thiruvannamalai districts. His capital was called Thirukkoiloor
