Kao Denero is a hip hop artist that has become well-known throughout West Africa and the West African diaspora throughout the world. He is one of the most well known rap artists from the small country of Sierra Leone, and has also been called the "King of Freetown"," after a successful album of the same title was released. History

Kao started rapping at an early age in his native country of Sierra Leone. He gained a following after numerous performances and competitions in Freetown, and eventually began to record pioneering hip hop albums under the Black Leo record company.

Career

Kao has collaborated with other popular African music artists Emerson Bockarie (the hit song "De Day"), and Guinean rap group, Methodix. He is reportedly the first Sierra Leonean music artist to release a double album, start his own clothing line "Black Leo Wear"," and record with a Grammy Award winning artist Shabba Ranks,("Trouble").). Kao relocated to Philadelphia, PA, in 2000 and continues to perform throughout the world. He was most recently in Sierra Leone for the release of "A New Beginning" in April, 2008.
