Ian Livingstone , illustrated by Kevin Bulmer and originally published in 1985 by Puffin Books. It was later republished by Wizard Books in 2005. It forms part of Steve Jackson andIan Livingstone 'sFighting Fantasy series. It is the 13th in the series in the original Puffin series (ISBN 0-14-031710-4) and 23rd in the modern Wizard series (ISBN 1-84046-565-4). The book is made up of 380 references rather than the usual 400.tory
The story takes places in a post-apocalyptic America dominated by heavily armed
muscle car s and lawless nomads; there can be little doubt that the setting draws direct inspiration from the "Mad Max " movies. The player must drive their Dodge Interceptor across the brutal wastes in order to procure a fresh supply of petrol for their home, the peaceful settlement of New Hope."Freeway Fighter" deviates from the Fighting Fantasy norm in that it is not set in the world of Titan and by the inclusion of a vehicle combat system alongside the standard hand to hand system, with space provided to allow the player to record damage to their vehicle. The book also includes shooting rules. The car itself has weapons and modifications, and must be continuously supplied with petrol in order for the journey to continue (you can actually fail in your mission by simply running out of gas).
