KJJQ's transmitter is located in the town of Volga, South Dakota, but the studios are in the nearby city of Brookings. Known as Radio 910, the station has a broad range transmitting across eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota, reaching the cities of Yankton, South Dakota, Webster, South Dakota, Chamberlain, South Dakota, Marshall, Minnesota, Olivia, Minnesota, and the communities between these points. The station was formerly in a historic train depot and went by the name "Depot Radio". In 2005, the depot was sold and KJJQ relocated to the building now housing the other four commercial radio stations in Brookings.

Format

KJJQ is primarily an information-driven station with an emphasis on local area news, sports, and weather. Augmenting this format, world news from ABC Radio runs at the top of each hour, and several hours of ESPN Radio run throughout the day. The station originates a number of local programs, including a two-hour sports talk program on South Dakota sports and "The Great Afternoon Smorgasbord" – a two-and-half hour talk show focusing on uniquely South Dakotan culture, history, music, and folklore. KJJQ also broadcasts a number of local sporting events, including complete season coverage of South Dakota State University women's basketball.

KJJQ has won a number of Associated Press Awards. Since 2002, the station has garnered 10 first place awards recognizing local news, sports, and weather coverage.
