"The Gift" is a 2008 action thriller film directed by Greg Maracks and starring Shane West, Edward Burns, and Ving Rhames.

Synopsis

FBI agents apprehend Max. Being under pressure Max agrees for cooperation in investigation and the FBI along with the NSA finally calculate and the source of these mysterious messages,Clarifyme|date=September 2008 they find out that the messages surprisingly are coming from US territory, and that the messages are being sent through Echelon System. Someone (-s) uses this extremely important system for unknown and dangerous purposes.

NSA Director (Burke) demands from his agents to kill Max to assure top secrecy of strange events. Max survived and accompanied Reed then goes to Moscow on assignment by Mr. Mueller-owner of a casino in Prague, in order to prevent ruin of this casinos worldwide. Max again resort to help from Russian hacker. Yuri finds out explanations about all the previous events that have occurred with Max, then explains everything being due to a strong and logical computer's algorithm. Yuri makes a discovery: Echelon behaves as though it is intelligent, as if it were a person. A person protecting himself.

Finally, after number of unexpected and dramatic turns Max, Reed and Grant resolved this "logical" problem and prevent extremely big and global threat. But they were just participating in some kind of "puppets show". And this show "must go on".
