Rep. Menendez has been a member of the Texas House of Representatives since 2000. Prior to his service in the State House, Rep. Menendez was City Councilman for District 6 in Bexar County.
Early life
Rep. Menendez graduated high school from Central Catholic High, in San Antonio, in 1987. He then went on to attend Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, where he received his Bachelor's in Business and Latin American Studies. He returned to San Antonio, where he took over his family business in 1991.
Political career
Jose Menendez was appointed to the San Antonio Zoning Commission for District 6 in 1993. After realizing that the sitting Councilman for District 6 was not doing the best job for San Antonio, Menendez was urged to run for the seat in 1996. After a heated campaign and race, Menendez was elected to the office of City Councilman for District 6 in 1997.
After serving as Councilman for one and a half terms, Menendez left his seat on Council and ran for State Representative for District 124 in 1999. Rep. Jose Menendez began serving his term in 2000, and continues to serve as the State Rep. today.Rep. Menendez constituency has grown from an original 158,000 persons, to over 230,000 in 2007.
Rep. Menendez is married to Cehlia Nicole Newman-Menendez and has three children; Dominic, Victoria, and Austin. He and his family reside in both San Antonio and Austin.
