The 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, known officially as the Agila Division, is one of the Philippine Army's Infantry units in Mindanao, and specializes in anti-guerrilla warfare.

History

The 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army was formally activated on August 16, 2006 based on the initial orders issued by the headquarters of the Philippine Army as stated in GO# 335 dated 09 August 2006 in compliance with the guidance of the Philippine President, in concurrence as Commander-in-Chief.

The four primary purposes of activating such a division south-easterly portion of the island of Mindanao out of the existing Army Units in this area are: Achieve focus against confronted threats; Better assurance of dismantling all targeted guerrilla fronts which are considered the most advanced, volatile, and dangerous; For Better administration, supervision and support of operating units confronting all threats in the immediate area through threat based deployment of troops; and to better address the organizational weaknesses brought by the political boundaries of the 4th and 6th Infantry (KAMPILAN) Division Divisions.

More apparently, the establishment of a new infantry division had required the reassignment of several units from adjacent divisions. From the 4th Infantry Division, the 404th Infantry Brigade which was name the 1001st Brigade, TASK FORCE DAVAO, 28Th, 60Th, 67Th, 73rd Infantry Battalions and 72nd CAFGU Battalion were incorporated. From the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, The 601st was renamed the 1002nd Infantry Brigade, JOINT TASK FORCE GENSAN, 25th, 27th, 39th, and 66th were likewise absorbed.

MGen Ernesto D Boac AFP assumed his role as its 1st Commanding General on 16 August 2006 in a simple ceremony in Sasa, Davao City.

Mission

The 10th Infantry (AGILA) Division, Philippine Army often conducts Internal Security Operations (ISO) in their Area of Responsibility (AOR) to dismantle and destroy the remaining guerilla fronts of the Local Communist Movement (LCM), the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and the Abu Sayyaf Group in order to attain peace and stability conducive to sustainable development in assisting the Philippine government in its socio-economic development projects; and assists the Philippine National Police curb criminality in the South-easterly region of Mindanao.
