The station is currently owned by Clear Channel Communications and features programing from ABC Radio and Premiere Radio Networks. History

The station was assigned the call letters KHTX on 1991-12-28. On 1992-01-10, the station changed its call sign to KRQC and on 1995-01-03 to KHTX. On 1997-05-01 it became KDON and on 1998-10-12 KTXX. On 2002-08-14 the calls became the current KION however on 2004-10-19 the station changed again to KABL and finally on 2006-12-31 back to the current KION.
