History

The Crusaders referred to al-Shajara by "Seiera". The Arabic name of the village "ash-Shajara" translates as "the Tree".

In 1907, al-Shajara residents attacked the nearby Jewish settlement of Sejera, in response to the residents of that town occupying village farmlands. [Khalidi, Rashid.
