Buraka Som Sistema

Buraka Som Sistema are a Portuguese band whose genre is kuduro.Their first hit was "Yah!" in 2006, featuring Petty and Kalaf, and their second hit was "Wawaba".

Recent history

In 2008, Buraka Som Sistema released the song "Sound of Kuduro". It features M.I.A, DJ Znobia, Saborosa and Puto Prata, and this is the first single of the new album "Black Diamond" that will be released in 2009. Their label is Enchufada in a partnership with Sony BMG, and this is their first album, after the EP "From Buraka to the world", that showed the 'progressive kuduro' of the band.

Members

The members of the band are Lil'John, Riot and Condutor. Kalaf is a usual partner of Buraka Som Sistema

Name origin

Buraka comes from the freguesia of Buraca near Amadora, in the outskirts of Lisbon.

Awards

In the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 they were 8th (out of 19) in the New Sounds of Europe International Competition.In the same award show, they were one of the nominees for Best Portuguese Act.In the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 they are again one of the Best Portuguese Act nominees.
