footnotes =intY are a leading UK supplier of secure Internet and messaging solutions for email, web and mobile platforms, supplying in excess of 3,000 organizations. Still a private company, intY was formed over 11 years ago and initially focused on developing the Open Source ExoServer secure appliance, sold largely to SME and education customers. It was also one of the earliest UK vendors to deploy a hosted email scanning service delivering anti-spam and anti-virus protection from 1999 and with MailDefender launched as a stand-alone product in 2003.
In 2007 the business restructured itself to deliver Software as a Service and Security as a Service products. After launching a hosted web filtering product and becoming a Microsoft Gold Partner the company formed strategic partnerships with some of the UKs largest ISPs and mobile providers.
A member of the Internet Watch Foundation since 2005, intY were accredited to ISO 27001 standard in 2008 and the same year enhanced their WebDefender web filtering product for 3G mobile networks, which was the first commercially available product capable of delivering granular policy control to this type of user. Based in Bristol, they have technology partnerships with Sophos, Cloudmark, Kaspersky, FSecure, Microsoft, Netsweeper amongst others.
Products
intY groups it's services under the 'Defender' group name: MailDefender is a hosted anti-spam and anti-virus service. WebDefender enables granular policy control of web access, including application control, to PC users, both roaming and office based. The service was upgraded in 2008 to support users connecting via 3G mobile data networks. DeskDefender is based on the FSecure anti-virus and spyware product with a web reporting and control facility.
intY are unusual for a developer of Internet products because they also offer hosted Exchange 2007 email and SharePoint as a result of their Microsoft relationship.
