The 6th Annual Derrill’s 5K Race will be held Sunday, May 3, 2009 on the Manhan Rail Trail in Easthampton. This 5K Run/Walk benefit race has grown to attract over 430 runners participants, making it a wonderful community event . The race is held in memory of Sgt. Derrill Stoddard, of the Easthampton Police Department who lost his battle with leukemia in 2003. Each year since 2004, proceeds from Derrill’s Race benefit charitable causes. In just five short years, the race has donated over $55,000 to the Cam Neely Foundation For Cancer Care and has established the Derrill’s Race Scholarship to provide financial assistance to an Easthampton male and female resident who will be pursuing a career in criminal justice or law enforcement. This year, Derrill’s Race has chosen to provide support to a very special local project. Last fall a portion of the Manhan trail was damaged by a huge sink hole. The race committee has pledged to support the efforts of The Friends of the Manhan Rail Trail by donating a large portion of this year’s proceeds toward the repair of the trail. Join us for “Derrill’s Race To Save The Trail”! Co-founded in 2004 by Wellness Within Chiropractic and the Easthampton Police Association, Derrill’s Race is made possible through the continued support of area businesses and individuals.
