Ralph Mallory Kovel (
20 August 1920 –28 August 2008 ) was an Americanauthor of 97 books and guides toantique s, co-authored with his wife, Terry Horvitz Kovel. They wrote a nationally syndicated collectibles column that began in 1955.Life and career
Kovel was born in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin , and his family moved toCleveland, Ohio when he was in high school. He served in theUnited States Coast Guard inWorld War II . He attendedOhio State University .Kovel's early career was in the
food industry , eventually becoming a vice president atSara Lee Corporation . He and his wife became interested in antiques on their Bermuda honeymoon in 1950. Their first book came out in 1953.Kovel resided in
